The CCDC could not have asked for better weather on Sunday for our Ice Cream Social. A record number of people turned out to eat ice cream — homemade ice cream and store-bought ice cream — hang out with friends and neighbors and play yard games.

After a several year hiatus due to COVID, the CCDC’s popular Ice Cream Social is returning on Sunday, April 30 from 1-3. It will take place at the Haskell House, 1703 Waterston Avenue.

Pauline Stewart Brown was born in Austin’s Wheatville Freedman Colony to Archie and Clara Carrington Stewart and moved to Clarksville in 1942. She joined Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church when she was 8 years old and was a mainstay of the church and a frequent choir soloist until her death in 2009.

Mary Freeman Baylor, a lifelong resident of Clarksville, spent her professional life struggling to improve the quality of life of Clarksville residents and fighting to preserve the historic Clarksville Community.
