Mark Your Calendar! New Documentary About Clarksville and the Haskell House Debuts on November 16th. Free, but You Must RSVP.
Austin Parks & Recreation invites you to travel back in time and discover Clarksville, an early Texas Freedom Colony settled by free African Americans following Emancipation, by attending a screening of the new documentary, Haskell House and the Story of Clarksville on November 16th.
The film tells the story of Clarksville and the Hezikiah Haskell House, one of the neighborhood’s few remaining homes from Clarksville’s early days. The film features the reflections of descendants of early Clarksville residents and current residents.
Screening of this moving, 25-minute documentary will begin at 5PM and will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session moderated by former TV news anchor, Judy Maggio. Afterwards, there will be a catered soul food reception. Everything will take place the George Washington Carver Museum, 1165 Angelina Street.
